**FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWER**

01. Q: Is your Company a legal Company? How long have you been in this business?  [ Top ]

A: Manpower business is relatively new in Taiwan with a 23-year history. Our Company, "Highly Manpower Consulting Co." was officially registered with the government on 2nd November, 1992. Our legal Business License Number is 0073.

02. Q: If I am qualified to hire a maid, which Nationality of maid can we hire and how long will it

take before the maid can arrive in Taiwan ? [ Top ]

A:

Only maids from the Philippines, Indonesia & Vietnam  are allowed to come to Taiwan to work. Application for a maid comes in 2 Stages, as follows :

STAGE 1 : Registration at the Local Employment Office and 3 days advertisement at local
newspapers. Purpose is to give local Taiwanese first priority to job available.
The time taken to complete this stage is 3 weeks.

STAGE 2 : Submission of application to MOL (Ministry of Labor). This stage usually takes about 3 weeks.
After we have the approval letter, we will then have 2 things to process:
1. Video select a maid.
2. Submit the approval letter and relevant documents to the Economic & Cultural Office of the Philippines/Indonesia/Vietnam (depending on the Nationality of the maid chosen) in Taiwan for authentication. The maid will normally arrive 30-40 days after the release of the authenticated documents.
Sometimes, due to reasons below, the chosen maid may take a longer time to come or
worse, not able to come at all.

Reasons for delays :
1. She lives in the Province and unable to contact her immediately. Most of them do not
have telephones at home and we have to contact them through cables. Many maids
come by air, sea or land to the main city for their interviews and video tapings, and
return to their homes the same day.
2. Able to contact her but took time to report to our Agency.
3. Delay in getting her passport due to immigration backlog.
4. Delay in making payment to the Agency.
We will do our best to minimize delays. Employers are also advised to pick 2
confirmed candidates during selection, since if one is not able to come, we have
another available. Arrangements can be made for employers to go to maid’s country
for interviews.

03. Q:After I select the maid, how can I be sure that the maid is a good worker ? [ Top ]

A: Every 4 to 6 weeks, we will go to the maid's Country to interview potential candidates. We will shortlist candidates based on their work experiences, educational levels, attitudes, health, family background etc. Potential candidates will be video-taped (Filipino maids) or photographed (Vietnamese & Indonesian maids) for selection by employers in Taiwan. As we are very careful and strict in interviewing and selecting the maids, we are confident they will be good workers.

04. Q:What happens if the maid is not satisfactory? [ Top ]

A: The maid will be given written warnings regarding her unsatisfactory performance. It could be : not following instructions, damage to employer’s things due to carelessness, dishonesty, disrespect towards employer, using phone during working hours, etc, etc. The maid will be repatriated to her Country if the number of warning letters exceeds three (3).
But any reasons to terminate the contract, even with acknowledged 3 warning letters, you and she must go through government’s labor unit for proof and settlement.

05. Q:How long can the maid work in Taiwan ? [ Top ]

A: The maximum amount of time allowed for maid to work in Taiwan is 14 years. The minimum contract duration between employer and maid is 3 years but extendable to another year. After 3 years, the maid must leave Taiwan. She can then return to Taiwan again to work.

06. Q:If I have a maid that had worked for me before in another country, can I bring her into

Taiwan to work for me ? [ Top ]

A: Yes, you can bring in any maid of your choice. However, we will still have to apply for an approval from the Taiwan Government first. After we get the approval letter, your maid will have to return to her Country to complete the necessary paper work, as a lot of personal appearances is required during the process. The normal amount of time that she needs to spend in her Country is 3-4 weeks.

07. Q:Can I bring my maid for vacation overseas any time ? [ Top ]

A: Yes, But you must apply for a re-entry for your maid to enter Taiwan again. Otherwise, your maid will be stranded overseas and application for her to enter Taiwan again can get quite messy and costly to you. Also, you must be aware of your maid's Alien Residence Certificate & Medical renewal dates (Make sure she is in Taiwan during these periods).
Please make it a habit to contact our office every time your maid wants to leave Taiwan.

08. Q:What causes friction between employers and their maids ? Why do maids run away and

            how can I prevent this ? [ Top ]

A: Normally, friction happens when maids are not performing well and employers use harsh (sometimes abusive) words on them. Employers should contact us if they feel that their maids are not doing their job well and refrain from using harsh words on them. Please realise that once these words are spoken at them, perhaps in a moment of anger, the damage would have already been done, and it would not be easy to mend the strained relationship. The bottom line is : There is no PERFECT MAID. Everyone makes mistakes, and if the mistake is minor, forgive and forget; but if the mistake is major, contact us immediately and we will take care of it. Don't handle it yourself. Otherwise, the situation may get worse to the point that your maid may run away. An excellent way to enhance your relationship with your maid is to give praises freely and frequently. A "PAT ON THE SHOULDER" every once in a while for a job well done often works wonders in your relationship with her. We can sometimes put ourselves in their situation : working so far away & away from their loved ones, overcoming the loneliness that is sure to come. An encouraging remark will certainly help a great deal.

09. Q:What happens if I am transferred to a new assignment and I have to leave quickly? [ Top ]

A: In accordance to R.O.C. regulations, employers who have been given a new assignment overseas must leave their maids in Taiwan for transfer to a new employer. The transfer process normally takes about 2 months to complete. During this transfer period, the employer will have to continue to pay the government levy, the N.H.I. premium and the maid's salary. In the event that the transfer process is not successful (could not find a new employer), the employer will have to pay the maid's airfare to her Country and the case is then closed.
